Chapter 3.39 – Blast From the Past

Saturday 8:00 AM – Reagan’s House

Reagan was sitting with her mom having coffee when her phone buzzed with a text from Evan. She breathed a sigh of relief and smiled as she read it. She had been worried sick about him. In all the time she’s known him, he never ignored her texts and phone calls. He must’ve really been sick.

“Who’s that? Lover boy?” asked her mother, rolling her eyes.

Reagan closed her eyes and composed herself before answering.  “Yes. It’s Evan,” she said and smiled. She wasn’t going to let her mother spoil her good mood. “He wants me to meet him at the coffee shop for breakfast.”

“Okay. Well enjoy. I’ll be right here when you get back.” said Avery.

“Did you want to go?” asked Reagan confused by her word choice. Then she remembered. Car shopping. And groaned. “I’m sorry. I forgot. We’re supposed to car shop today. I won’t be long. I promise. Maybe Evan can join us. Someone that knows more about cars than I do.”

“Sure. Sounds good,” replied Avery smiling.

“Okay! Great. Love you Mom,” said Reagan.  She jumped up and ran to change clothes. She couldn’t wait to get to the coffee shop and see Evan.

Saturday 8:30 AM, Willow Creek Coffee Shop

Reagan arrived before Evan, so she went on and ordered for both of them so he wouldn’t bitch about paying. She smiled as she thought about his rant about $7 dollar coffees and ordered a pastry for him too. She couldn’t wait to see him.  She was going to tell him about her dad giving her money, because she knew he wouldn’t like her buying a car for her mother. Besides, she didn’t want secrets with him either.

She looked up when the door opened and he walked in. He looked disheveled and tired. Not like Evan at all. He must still be sick. He sat down across from her. He looked even worse up close and it alarmed her.

“Evan, do you need to go to the hospital?” asked Reagan truly concerned. “You look terrible.”

“No. Reagan, I have something I need to tell you,” his eyes were red rimmed and glassy, “But before I do, I need you to know that I love you. I’ve wanted to say it probably since I helped you move … but circumstances prevented it. I never, ever intended for you to get hurt. I’m so sorry.”

“Stop it Evan, you’re scaring me. And for the record, I love you back, so no matter what you’re involved in, or what’s wrong with you, we can work through it, together.” Reagan was near tears and her heart was racing. She wanted to throw her arms around him and make it all okay.

She reached over to take his hand and he pulled away. “I wish it was that easy …  Reagan, I’m married. We’ve been separated, but….”

Reagan was stunned. She thought maybe he had a gambling problem and owed money, or he was on drugs, or had cancer even. But wife was never a word she expected to hear. Tears began to roll down her cheeks from a different kind of pain. Betrayal.

“I’m going to try to reconcile with her. She was going…”

At that she quickly stood up nearly, knocking over the coffee, that neither of them touched. “Shut up! Just shut up,” she yelled at him.

“Reagan, I’m so….”

Before he finished his sentence, she slapped him and walked out of the coffee shop.

Saturday, 9:00 AM – Newcrest Park

Reagan could hardly breathe as she made her way to the park. She just needed to be alone. She parked her car and walked to a bench in the maze, crying the entire way.

Everything she believed about Evan was nothing but a lie. How could he say he loved her in one breath and then say he was reconciling with his wife in the next. Wife. Oh god. Her mother was right not to have trusted him. She had been played for a fool.

“Reagan? Mind if I have a seat?” asked a man she didn’t see walk up.

Irritated at the intrusion, she looked up and gasped as recognition took her breath away.  Even with the sunglasses on she knew.  “Archer?”

He huffed out a small laugh. “The one and only.”

She sniffed and swiped at her running nose and attempted to smile. “Sorry, you caught me at a really bad time.”

Archer smiled apologetically. He said simply, “Um…”  and motioned to the seat next to her.

“Oh. Yes, please sit,” she said quickly, embarrassed that she was staring at him, “It’s been a long time. Seven years or so? How are you? I guess I thought I’d never see you again.” She was rambling. She sniffed again as the memory of the last time she’d seen him assaulted her. She was crying then too, as he walked out of her life and broke her heart completely in half.

He removed his shades and lowered himself on the bench next to her and her heart rate sped up. He made her very nervous. “Yes,” he said smiling at her, “Seven long years. You grew up. You’re even more lovely than I remember.” His expression changed and he looked a little sad before he smiled again. “Listen, Reagan, I want to apologize …”

Reagan held up her hand stopping him. She couldn’t revisit the pain she thought she’d put behind her, until she saw him standing there. She already had too much to deal with, with Evan’s horrible revelations. Reagan tried to smile. “Not now … I just can’t.”

“Are you okay? Can I take you home?” He looked really worried.

“No, honestly, I’m not okay.  But I have my car. I just received some unsettling news is all.”  She didn’t want to talk about her problems so redirected the conversation. “Do you live here now? Are you a cop?”

“I live in San Myshuno, working for BASE, the security company. I manage the security and investigations division.”

“Wow. Management,” said Reagan and this time gave him a genuine smile. She was so proud for him. He’d gotten out, just like he wanted and really had made something of himself. Suddenly she felt very selfish. She remembered her 16 year-old self wishing she was pregnant so he wouldn’t leave and cringed. Thank god he was much more mature than she had been at the time, and had the good sense to leave. No, he didn’t owe her an apology at all. How was her life such a mess when his seemed to work out so well? He had been right, she would’ve dragged them both down.

“Yeah. It’s interesting work,” he commented.

“You always were very good at understanding people and why they do what they do. Wait, that’s the company Ami uses. You guys provide security services for our home sites and our offices. Is that why you’re here? To meet with Ami?”

“Oh … yes. And I thought, while I was here, I’d check out the park. It hasn’t changed. The trees are maybe a little taller. Even this spot is the same.” He looked sad. He must remember the last time they saw each other too.

He was tugging at her heart strings and she was getting emotional again. Damn he shouldn’t look so good. “Married? Kids?” she finally asked when the silence got unbearable.

He smirked at her and memories assaulted her again. Her heart fluttered every time he’d looked at her like that and it did it again. Just now. How was that even possible? “No, I’m not, and no kids – that I know of,” he said.

She laughed to cover up how much his presence was getting to her. “Always the ladies man,” she said.

He looked sad for a second again and shook his head slowly. “Not anymore. I’ve been so busy with work since I left, there really hasn’t been time for anything serious. I did a lot of undercover work after I got out of the academy. Not so conducive to establishing relationships.”

“How’d you score a management position with BASE?” she asked, honestly curious.

“You remember Olivia and Jason Blake? Their dad hired me. He’s actually my second cousin on my mother’s side. Go figure. I had no idea. So he pulled some strings. He actually got me in the Police Academy.  He found out when … anyway, I was lucky, but I like to think I earned it too. What about you? Also working in the family business?”

She couldn’t talk about work without thinking about Evan. Archer had her so distracted, she’d actually forgotten how bad he’d hurt her for the 30 minutes they’d been getting reacquainted. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly before answering. “Yes. I do design consulting.” That was all she could say without falling apart. “I really need to go.”

“Of course. It was good to see you Reagan. Be careful, and take care of yourself. Maybe I’ll see you around.”

She stood up and shook her head slowly.  “I don’t think so. But it was good to see you too. Congratulations on your job.”

She turned walked quickly away without looking back, leaving Archer sitting on the bench, very much the same way he left her seven years ago when he walked out of her life. So ironic that she should be the one leaving this time.

When she got to her car, she lost it. She leaned her head on the steering wheel and cried.  Her life sucked. It went from a fairy tale, to screwed up in the space of a few hours. And Archer had to show up and reinforce how awful it was.

*****************************************************************************

Saturday 10:30 AM – Reagan’s House

Reagan had eventually pulled herself together enough to drive home. She had to get out of there before Archer saw her. He might try to help her and she couldn’t handle that. She knew, he would only bring her more pain.

When she walked in the house, her mother was sitting there, and she suddenly remembered she was supposed to take her car shopping. One more failure. She prepared herself her mother’s anger for taking so long.

“Reagan, Honey, what happened?” said her mother, a worried look on her face. “You look like your best friend just died.”

That’s all it took and she collapsed into a puddle of tears. Her mother quickly came to her and put her arms around her. “Shhh. Baby, what happened? Is Evan okay? You’re worrying me.”

“Evan….” she said between shuddering breaths. “He’s married.” She sobbed harder. But her mother didn’t say anything and she was grateful.

After a minute, Avery finally spoke. “Why don’t you have a seat and I’ll pour us a glass of wine. It’ll help calm you down and you can tell me all about it.”

“No. I don’t want to talk about it. I’m just going to go to lay down for awhile.”

“Oh, for how long? I thought maybe we could go shopping and get something pretty for you. It might make you feel better. Or we could window shop for cars. Take your mind off him.”

At the mention of Evan, tears clouded her vision again. “No. I’m a total wreck. Take my car and go. Here, you can take my credit card too. I‘m going to bed.”

Her mother actually rolled her eyes. “Fine. I was only trying to help. I warned you about him. He was too smooth and flirty. You’re better off without him. I’m glad he at least came clean. Now you can move on. Go on, go downstairs and get him out of your system.”

Reagan didn’t know what to say to that. Her mother had been right. Maybe she really was playing along with him and not the other way around when he flirted with her. He made it seem like it was the other way. She didn’t know what to think or believe anymore except she needed to get away from her mother.  She turned and headed downstairs with her still talking.

Saturday, 11:00 AM – Reagan’s House

As soon as Reagan left the room, Avery dialed her cell phone.  “Well, mission accomplished. He’s outta the picture now. But she’s a pile of useless mush. Stupid girl.

“That works to our advantage,” said Viv, “she’ll be easier to subdue. Meet me at Velo’s restaurant in an hour and we can put our plans into action.”

Avery looked at Reagan’s credit card and laughed. “Sure, my treat! By this time tomorrow, we’ll be rich and free!”

  1. Oh my, Avery is just so deliciously wicked 😈 Poor Reagan and Evan though 😭 Pawns in her twisted game! And Rea doesn’t even realize…

I kind of hoped Archer would say something to her about her mom’s suspicious activity, but I guess they don’t have enough information at this point… it was nice to see him yet again though, even if it just upset Reagan even more 😬

    Next chapter when???

    • Poor kids! Ugh. I felt soooo bad for both Reagan and Evan. And yes. Now Archer’s back and he didn’t make her feel any better! Yes. They don’t have enough information about her to say anything yet. He saw her and couldn’t resist saying something.

      Avery…..Grrrrr.

  2. Yes, Reagan, I wonder why your life is such a mess. It couldn’t be because of your harpy of a mother. It’s not like everything was starting to get on the right tracks before the Wicked Witch of the Hole (the one we want her to die in) got out.

  3. So Evan really chose to do what Avery wanted. I’m disappointed. All these guys give up so easily when threatened. First Archer, now Evan. As much as I hoped to see Archer again, I’m not excited about the idea of him swooping in when things between Rea and Evan got complicated. And he didn’t even try to warn Rea about her mother. Not even a bit. Counts as another lie. Rea will find out eventually what he’s been up to and won’t be happy about it. There doesn’t seem to be a decent honest guy in the world for her.
How is Avery hoping to come into money is a mystery to me. Is she hoping to extract more of it from Cole through Rea? Poor girl. Everyone is using her and keeping her in the dark.

    • All these guys are disappointing right now 😭😭😭. Archer is showing up at a time when Reagan will be vulnerable. Hope one of them stands up to Avery. And is honest with Reagan. 😭 I don’t think Archer knows whats going on with Avery. Not yet. Or he wouldn’t have let her leave.

Avery and Viv are definitely planning something that involves. Reagan.

    • I was trying to reply in the car. And meant to say, in Evan’s defense, he hasn’t just rolled over and given in. He felt he had no choice. I would hope he’d eventually tell Ryan once he felt Avery was no longer a threat. But right now, he’s hurting bad.

  4. Wavery again… Avery, please die in that hole already, you witch, it’ll do everyone a favor.
And Evan… He had to do it. I think I feel the worst for him out of everyone. Reagan, honestly she had it coming when she welcomed her witch of a mother into her house and life. Ryan shouldn’t have tried to get two girls at the same time. But Evan… Yes, he did wrong when he didn’t tell her he was married, but he was for the most part innocent and got wrapped in the family drama and screwed by Wavery just because he got too close to Reagan. Then he also got screwed by Maribel, and was now left by Reagan. Plus his hands are tied and he can’t tell Reagan the truth or else Avery is going to file rape charges (oh my God, just like Cole wanted to do on Archer, maybe they do have something in common after all) and he’ll be even more screwed. Is there any silver lining at all?

    • Evan has definitely received the worst of everything, even though Reagan’s in the middle of the Wavery Show….

Evan truly felt he had no choice. He had to get Avery to believe he totally complied. I don’t think he’ll stay down long. At least I hope not. And Maribel too. Ugh.

Yes! How ironic. Only, when Cole was doing that no one had been hurt, it was completely consensual and initiated by Reagan. But it’s completely the opposite now. Evan was very likely raped by Avery. But we don’t know other than the pictures on his phone. And who would believe a woman raped a man? But it happens.

I hope eventually she will be discovered. And Reagan can run far and fast…

  5. Okay…I KNOW Archer couldn’t have just shown up by coincidence there. I hope he or someone is keeping an eye on Reagan, especially after that call Avery made to Viv. She is in danger. Evan perhaps should have come clean sooner about his soon to be ex-wife, but then again…being a man I understand why he didn’t. He wanted to take care of it quietly. Who could have known about the Avery factor?
If this was real life, I would say someone needs to take care of Avery and fast, before someone gets seriously hurt…but it being a SimLit, I hope you milk this for all it’s worth!!! Lol…bwhahahahahahahah

    • Archer was keeping an eye on Reagan. That call to Viv sounded ominous. Those two are definitely up to something.

Poor Evan. He should have, but really, it would have protected him if Reagan had refused to see him. She very well could have still gone out with him knowing the divorce was imminent. Maybe. And then she would still have pulled the same routine. It was just easier this way.

What?!?! You think I’m milking Avery’s evilness? Mwhahahaha. 😈😇😇😇😇😇😈

  6. Oh sigh. I really don’t know what to say, that I haven’t already so many times over, but I am recruiting people to help start digging that hole for Avery. Accepting applications now.
I don’t even know how to start listing all the people I feel sorry for, so I am going to go with my good old standby … Sigh, Archer *swoon*. 😉

  7. Wow. I knew Avery was the worst but she’s just psychotic! I mean, she doesn’t even have one ounce of love for her daughter at all. Sad.

Archer is back but what bad timing. And poor Evan has to lie just to buy time with Avery. I’m so hoping he can figure a way out. I’ve jumped ships and want Evan for the win! 🏆

I’ve popped the popcorn with extra butter. 🍿 I KNOW Avery’s going down and I can’t wait to see it all! 😈😈😈😈

    • She is psychotic. Agreed. She was awful before, but no, she doesn’t care at all about her kids. Never did.

Archer’s timing is bad. Or maybe it’s good? But poor Evan is a complete mess. I feel so sorry for him. He knows how bad he’s hurting Reagan. I hope he can take Avery down. But someone needs to.

Gonna have a flurry of back to back chapters…. So it’s a good think you got extra butter! 🙂

  8. My mind is working a little different than everyone else’s. I think maybe Archer is playing a Randy on us and is going undercover to catch Avery and her friend. Avery has Reagan’s credit card. I sure it is not is unimited, so there is only so much money she can get. Unless of course she plans on maxing it out and Cole paying it off.
I believe Archer will stop her soon. Avery is going back to jail and this time for good.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Oh yes. I think you are on the right track. They’ve been watching Avery, but o my for a couple of days. They don’t know what she’s up to. And Archer has made this his own case. Hopefully now they’ll catch her and and she will in deed go back to jail. So far, she’s done nothing illegal except she probably shouldn’t be hanging out with Viviana.

      • She did something illegal, if Evan would tell what she did to him. She drug him and is blackmailing him. She also raped him.He could have her out in jail if he would just open his eyes. Hopefully, Archer will figure out what happened.

        Liked by 1 person

        • This is VERY true. But nobody knows it yet. It’s bound to come out soon! And Evan is totally going to go after her. He just needs to figure out how so it doesn’t look like he’s the one lying.

  10. Archer!! 😍😍 You know, I’m sooo glad to see him again after all this time, but I can’t be 100% happy because of all the $#&t that’s going on with Evan… poor Evan! 😭😭
Except for Avery, I also want to strangle Reagan with my bare hands sometimes… she’s so dumb, lol! She has the nerve to wonder why her life isn’t like Taylor’s, when all she’s done is push away the people who make Taylor’s life so nice. Ugh, what a stupid girl.
    Oh, and #averydieinahole 😡

  11. Ugh. I think I’ll never get used that apparently everyone is always on the verge of tears.
I mean… Evan hasn’t even said a word and Rea is already near tears? 😮
Then in that other Chapter Cole almost crying because he’s so touched that Rea took his money and there’s many more and I srsly think the whole family is a bunch of big crybabies already 😡
Oh & pls don’t get me wrong, Rea crying *after Evan told her about reconciling with his wife makes perfectly sense 🙂

I’m also really disappointed in Evan. I would have pictured him smarter than he is acting here.
Same goes for Avery but I’ve said that already.

“You remember Olivia and Jason Blake? Their dad hired me. He’s actually my second cousin on my mother’s side. Go figure. I had no idea.” This made me giggle when I remembered some discussion we once had 😀 ❤

    • You know. There are too many tears. Lol… I agree. We need some stronger people that just get angry. Avery is just crazy. Evan was made to act quickly and wanted to make her think he was complying while trying to figure out a plan. 🤷‍♀️. Don’t be too hard on him.

      Yep – related.

  12. Avery just keeps getting more and more nasty, like, how’s that even possible? Ugh.

Anyway, i’m surprised Reagan didn’t colapse into Archer’s arms when she saw him. She had just broken up with her boyfriend, and the hot guy that *was* her boyfriend in the past, comes in? And with his stuff together? It just shows how much she really liked Evan.

I’m glad Archer is back, but I doubt he and Reagan will get any action. Maybe if she gets drunk, because, right now, she’s a mess, and she’s going to stay a mess for a while. Poor girl is already thinking her life is *just* nasty, and nothing else, little does she know the enemy sleeps veeeery close to her….

Avery, again #givemethehole #Averygodieinahole the final comente about her daugther, calling her ”stupid”, just shows how much dear old mama really cares about her. And I bet Reagan is going to furious when she finds out.

And that worries me. The feeling of betrayal can cause some burning anger to be born,(As Cole has lovely showed us) and she could do something real nasty to Avery, just sayin’. Either that, or she’ll just go miserable, like her father. But I think anger is the way she’ll go.

    Liked by 1 person

    • You are right. She does love Evan. He’s the first on to make her forget about Archer. He was kind and sweet.

I doubt any action right away either. Hopefully not drunk action. And your right, Reagan’s going to be a mess for awhile. And yes, Mommy isn’t going to help. She doesn’t care one bit about Reagan or Ryan. I’m sure she thinks they screwed her life up. Reagan will probably find out at some point. I feel bad for her when she does.

Yes. I agree. Anger would be the way Reagan would go. Suits her personality better. And Cole just rolls over.

  17. Yes, Reagan, your life is such a mess which started when you let that so-called excuse for a mother move into your house. That was the worst thing you could’ve possibly done although you don’t know it yet. When she finds out what is really going on, there’s going to be so much more heartbreak and pain. 💔 It seems nobody has her best interest at heart. Evan caves into Avery and Archer shows up at the worst possible time. What an absolute royal mess! 😡

Anyway, I’m surprised Archer didn’t warn Reagan about any of the suspicious activity her so-called mother is up to. I wonder if they either don’t have enough evidence or if he is keeping it hush-hush as to not have her tip Avery off. Otherwise, I have a hard time believing he would just let her go like that back into the proverbial Lions’ den.

As to Evan, I wonder what his sorry ass has to say for himself now. 😡

The one to blame, really, is the queen of the oil pot. #boilAveryinoil She and Shane – the king and queen of the double oil boiler pot (unless we go with the triple decker model to include Maribel) need to boil and die together. Hmmmm. I wonder who would scream the loudest. 🤣🤣🤣
