Chapter 3.41 – The Truth

Saturday 1:00 – Evan’s Apartment

Evan’s car was there so Ryan knew Evan must be too. Ryan walked up to his apartment and banged on the door.  He realized, as he was waiting, that he’d never been in Evan’s apartment before. Evan had always come to his. When there was no response, he banged again and yelled. “Connor! Open up! I know you’re in there.”

“Go away,” he called, his voice rough.

Ryan banged again. “Not happening, let me in!”

Finally, the door opened and Ryan was even more shocked at Evan’s appearance than before. “Ryan,” slurred Evan, “where’s Reagan, she can’t be here, gotta leave.”  He looked around to see if anyone was watching, or maybe looking for Reagan.  Ryan had no idea which, but he looked paranoid.

“She’s not here,” said Ryan and muscled his way into the apartment.

“Fuck!” said Evan and clumsily attempted to throw the can of beer he had been drinking at the wall. It hit the floor instead, with a dissatisfying tinkle as it rolled and came to rest against the baseboard.  Evan flopped down onto the bed.

Ryan couldn’t believe his eyes. There were empty beer cans and bottles scattered around the tiny, sparsely furnished apartment. “What the fuck happened in here?” he asked.

“Get out Ryan … don’t tell Reagan how bad … I gave that bitch everything I owned to get her away from you,” he said.  Then with an exaggerated flourish, he added. “You’re welcome. Why are you here?”

“You’re drunk,” growled Ryan, “I’m going to sober you up, then we’re getting to the bottom of this shit. You’re disgusting. Get your ass up and get in the shower.” Ryan yanked his arm to get him moving.

When they walked into the bathroom, he was even more shocked. “Evan, what the hell is this shit?”

“Maid’s day off,” he said and shrugged.

Ryan reached in and turned on the shower. He made sure it was cold. “Strip out of those filthy clothes and get in.”

Evan obeyed and stepped in.

“Goddamnit! Fuck! You asshole!” he swore, no longer sounding drunk as the icy water hit his skin.

“Wash off and you can get out,” commanded Ryan.

He stuck his head under the spray and continued swearing. In only a minute stepped out. “Give me a fucking towel, I’m freezing.”

“Feeling better?” asked Ryan.

Evan glared at him. “Where’s Reagan?” he asked. At least he sounded lucid.

Ryan threw him a towel.  “At her house. She wanted to come and I said no.”

“Thank fuck,” said Evan, “You’re a good friend, Ryan.”

He was still half drunk.  “Cut the shit or I’m putting you back in the shower.”

Ryan handed him a glass of water. “Drink.”

“No!” refused Evan.

“It’s water fuckhead. Drink it. It’ll help sober you up. Then find some clean clothes while I make coffee.”

“What’s in it?”

“Water.”

“No drugs?”

Ryan looked at Evan differently.  “What the hell happened to you?” he asked.

“It’s complicated,” he said still staring at the water.

That made Ryan furious. He shoved Evan up against the refrigerator. “‘It’s complicated’ isn’t going to cut it. We’re going to go sit down and you’re going to start telling the truth.”

“Okay! Let me go.”

Ryan reluctantly let him go.  “Get dressed and get your ass back in here,” said Ryan, fed up with his bullshit.

Ryan made coffee and a minute later Evan walked in and plopped down at the table. “Ryan, where’s Reagan?” he asked. He sounded worried.

“I told you. At home.”

“Your mother’s insane. She’s not safe.”

“Tell me something I don’t know. And Reagan’s fine. Sit your ass down and drink and start making sense.”

“Your mother…it’s her. Well, and my stupidity.”

“What the fuck she’s got to do with this shit storm?”

“I’ll tell you, I have proof.  But, you can’t tell Reagan. Not yet. Not until it’s safe. And it’s going to destroy her. It’s on my phone. They’re disgusting. It was yesterday. But before you look, please, let me explain about Mari.

“I thought she was lying when she said she was going after you, because you never said anything … not until the night of Taylor’s party, but you left with Rosa.  I gave her everything. I have a copy of the signed divorce papers. All I have left now is my car and my clothes. It was worth it to get her out of my life.”

“That’s just a pile of bullshit,” said Ryan, “Reagan said you told her you two were getting back together. I had a conversation with Bel and she said differently. She was still trying to get me to take her out.”

“Lying bitch! She said if I gave her the fucking penthouse she’d leave you alone.”

“Focus asshole. Why did you tell Reagan you two were getting back together?”

“I never told Reagan about Mari because I thought we had an agreement months ago. But then, she decided she wanted to reconcile, so she didn’t sign the papers. Instead, she came looking for me and saw me with your sister at the club. That’s when she went after you. When I saw her at the gym I told her to leave. I thought she had. If I’d given her everything to begin with, we wouldn’t be here.”

“I’m not sure I followed any of that shit. Look at me Evan. Why did you lie to Reagan? Or even tell me about Maribel, when you were pretty sure she was going to disappear? Nothing you’re mumbling about makes any goddamn sense. And how does my mother … wait … she found out and forced your hand.”

Evan looked away before he spoke. “She did more than that. Ryan, I’m sorry she’s your mother, but she makes Mari look like a goddamned saint. She’s dangerous. She knows I don’t want her living with your sister. She bleeding her dry. She found out about Maribel and told me to leave or she’d tell Reagan. I told her no. But her friend had a gun…. “

“Wait, what friend?”

“I don’t know her name and she never even spoke. They drugged me because I said no.”

Ryan’s blood ran cold. “Evan. What did she do?”

“I can’t … going to be sick.” Evan got up and ran to the bathroom.

While he dry heaved into the toilet, Ryan opened up the pictures on Evan’s phone. He almost lost the contents of his stomach as well. Knowing that his mother had done this disgusted him.

Evan finally walked back in and Ryan turned to him. “You have to go to the police with this,” he said.

“How? It looks like I raped her and took pictures as a fucking souvenir. They’re on my cell phone. No one will believe they staged it. Ryan I don’t remember any of it. For all I know, I may have, I don’t know. But that’s what she wanted. All I remember is that chick pointing the gun at my head and Avery telling me to drink. She said they would just as soon kill me and claim self defense. Ryan, I believed them.”

“I need to get Reagan out of there. I’ll bring her back to my apartment,” said Ryan.

“You believe me?” asked Evan, apparently shocked.

“My mom has a screw loose. I believe you. But we need help.”

“Ryan, she’ll kill me if she thinks I told you,” said Evan getting nervous.

“I think I know who to call. He’s one of Reagan’s old boyfriends. He works for the security firm that does C&M security. He’s in town to meet with Ami and Noah.”

“You mean BASE? I know some of the guys there. Who is it?”

“His name is Archer Kendall.”

“Shit, he runs the security and investigations division. I’ve never talked to him, but I know the name,” said Evan. “You said he’s here to meet with Ami?  That’s strange. Usually the account manager assigned to the contract is who meets with clients, not the big guy.”

“Well, sounds like we’re in luck then. He must be good. I just need to figure out how to reach him.”

“Let me,” said Evan. He picked up his phone and found someone in his contacts and dialed. “Hey Carlton, Evan Connor, C&M. I understand Kendall’s in town and wanted to take him to dinner. Can I get a number?”

“…”

“Thanks. And I have a couple more homeowners to send your way.”

“Son of a bitch,” said Ryan.

“You should call,” said Evan, “He won’t want to talk to me about Reagan.”

Ryan pulled out his own phone and called Archer.

“Kendall here.”

“Hey Archer … Ryan Murdock.  Reagan told me you were in town. ”

“Ryan? I’m not here to make trouble. Can you hold on a minute? I just got an urgent call on my other line. I’ll call you right back.

“Well fuck. I got blown off,” said Ryan irritated now.

“He sounded intense,” said

“He always did. Never understood what Reagan saw in him.”

Ryan jumped when his phone rang. “This is Ryan.”

“Where are you?” asked Archer.

“With Evan Connor, in his apartment.”

“Is Reagan with you?”

“No, she’s at her house curled up in her bed, crying her eyes out.” Ryan glared at Evan.

“She’s not there.”

“Why are you looking for her?” asked Ryan.

“We got a ransom note.  She’s missing.”

“What? Reagan’s missing and there’s a note? What’s going on?  I just left her about 2 1/2 hours ago.” Ryan looked at Evan and he looked sicker than before.

“Reagan’s been kidnapped Ryan. Your father, grandfather and aunt all received phone calls requesting ransom approximately 30 minutes ago. We’ve got everyone except you and your mother at a safe house until we figure it out. We were looking for you.  We believe Evan Connor might also be involved. I’m sending someone to pick you both up. Ryan, he may be dangerous.”

He’s not involved. I’ve been with him the last two hours. But, he might know something that will help. Bring us to you.”

“Okay. We don’t have much time. They’ll be there shortly. Don’t leave.”

“Ryan. The Gun Lady, she’s itching to use that gun,” said Evan.

“Holy shit Evan. What’s happening?” asked Ryan.

  2. Oh shitttttttttt 😱😱😱

Damn it why couldn’t Ryan and Evan had this conversation sooner! 😂

I can’t wait to see how they save her! Poor Reagan 😭 Should have listened to literally every single person you know when they told you your mom was evil and crazy 😬

Good job, Mommy Dearest! ❤️😍 Bask in this small victory while you can, because I have a feeling you might be going down soon 😭

    • Yep. It’s confirmed. She’s certifiable! 😈 Too bad Ryan didn’t let her come with him and thwarted their plans….

If she goes down, let’s hope nobody goes with her…. I’m glad Ryan at least got the truth out of Evan even if he was talking over himself. Poor dude’s a mess.

Things are happening fast. I’m laughing at your heart and love emojis for Mommy Dearest and her accomplishments! 😂😂😂

  3. Ohhhh man! I never expected Avery would kidnap her own daughter! The evilness of this woman..! 😡
I can’t say I feel 100% sorry for Reagan though… I mean, everyone she knew told her that Avery is bad news but nooo – she had to play “little house on the prairie” with an ex-con. So, so dumb.
The $#&t has finally hit the fan! I can’t wait to see what happens! These chapters are awesome! 😎

    • Avery has zero empathy. She is psycho! 😱

Poor Reagan! All,she did was try to love her mother! 😱 She did try to play “little house on the prairie” and refused to believe it was any different even with it staring her in the face. Avery sooo took advantage of her naivety.

It had hit the fan, better duck! I’m glad you are enjoying the flurry of chapters! ❤️

      • Lol, I guess I’m a little harsh on Reagan, she kind of meant well… but I can’t help it! Poor Evan would not be in that state if she hadn’t enabled mommy dearest 😡 But nonetheless, I hope everything works out for Reagan in the end!
Also, why do I get the slight feeling that Evan will somehow not make it out of this mess alive? 😦

  4. So Avery… kidnapped her daughter. And that… that will clear her name how? Could of course just be that Avery asked her to come along and Reagan went with her because she has no brain when it comes to her mum. Either way, asking for ransom for Reagan is LITERALLY THE WORST PLAN.
I can only really say: #averydieinahole.

    • She doesn’t want to clear her name. She wants to skip the country. It wasn’t a bright plan. To be sure, Avery thinks Cole is stupid. She was able to manipulate him before, why not now. Plus her daughter was also easily fooled. It gave her too much confidence. She probably just signed her own death warrant. She doesn’t think Cole will go against what she wants. Stupid woman. Think her plan is foolproof. 🙄.

  5. Holy shit is right! 😱😱😱

Why would Avery kidnap her own daughter? Something else must be going on. She got her credit card. That would buy her time. Unless she wanted to pin something more on Evan but that’s too hard to frame him when he has a solid alibi. Doesn’t matter about the rape pics.

The three amigos are about to assemble! Maybe they should be called the Averyengers! I have full confidence in them!

    Go Team Averydieinahole! 🔪⛏🕳💣🧨⚰️

    • Avery isn’t bright, just overly confident. She wants more than a credit card and living in a tiny house. She thinks she can get millions and skip the country. More about that next chapter. She doesn’t care about Evan. She just needed him out of her way.

And yes, the three amigos are assembling. The Averyengers! So funny.

Team Averydieinahole . You appear to have all the required tools to build dig that hole! 😂😂😂

  6. And here we go. I knew this wasn’t going to end pretty as soon as she picked that %@^#$%$ up from prison to play happy home.
    Poor Evan.
    Poor Ryan.
    Poor Cole.
Poor … well you get the idea.
Evan is a huge mess. Sounds like he just about gave up completely. Understandable, too, hard to come back from that sh*tshow!. Yikes. Can’t wait for the next one.

  7. Never expected that to happen. Avery is on sick person. I thought my mom was sick, well actually she was sicker. Who kidnaps their own child for money?

  8. Avery’s actions stopped making sense to me a while ago. I still can’t fully grasp how she turned from a smart business lady who almost ran the whole Murdick company into a brainless psycho. She waited so long to get out of the jail and first thing she and her friend do is get a possession of a gun, threaten Evan with it, drug him and all that shite. They must have known that if he went to the police his word would probably held more weight that theirs and yet they take so much risk for what? A promise of money? Avery was getting all she needed from Reagan even without this crazy scheme. Her daughter was determined to provide for her despite everything and everyone. Not even Evan could prevent it. So why risk everything?
She must have lost her mind and her shrink failed their job if they didn’t see the signs. I can’t root for her, nor can I hate her. It’s just sad to see her turn from a promising evil mastermind, who could have pulled Rea’s strings forever to extract more money from Cole (because he wouldn’t let his daughter struggle) to this lousy and chaotic kidnapper.
From the first moment Evan was introduced, he gave the impression of someone who is not easy to mess with. To watch him lose his backbone and turn into a babbling drunk wreck is painful if I’m to be honest. I took him for a man of action. What Avery did should have mad him furious as soon as he got away from the gun pointed at him. First thing he should have done was take Reagan far away from Avery and then tell her everything. Instead he crawls back in his man cave to mope. He doesn’t deserve the girl, if you ask me. He’s doing a poor job fighting for her when it really matters.

    • Avery isn’t well. She is manipulative and narcissistic. Going to prison broke her all the way. She wants to hurt Cole and take the money she felt like was hers to begin with. Evan was in the way. She totally thinks they can get away with it because she sees Cole as weak.
Evan was a mess. And feared for his life. He is a shrewd business man, but not evil. He thought what he was dealing with Maribel was awful. But he saw evil and it spooked him.. I like to think he is still suffering some after effects of the drugs and just wanted to forget for a minute. It’s only been a few hours since he saw the pictures and told Reagan. Not days for him to get his shit together and formulate a plan, which he totally intends to do.

I would hope he would have gotten up the next day and done exactly what you said and I do think he may have. But Ryan got there while he was wallowing and it wasn’t pretty nor did it show Evan in a good light. But truly, he felt like he was doing it the safest way possible. By letting her think she’d won until he could figure out how to take her down. Don’t judge him too harshly. But there is also the fact that Reagan rejected him because he is married. Which is a technicality at this point but a truth he is dealing with. He loves Reagan. There is no doubt.

  9. WOW! Time to see what Archer can do, with the years of training his cousin gave him. I am glad Ryan got shit out of Evan and got him pulled together. I think you are right with a previous comment, he would have anyway. But time is of the essence. No time to wallow. I got a bad feeling someone isn’t going to make it out of this alive. I hope I am wrong though. Time for (as Pammie put it) the Averyvngers to Assemble and take this bitch out!!!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Archer at least has the training and experience to handle this. We’ll see what happens. Ryan did Getz Evan to open up, although I don’t think he had to be as much of an ass to get him to do it. Probably, if he hadn’t popped off at the gym, he may have realized what he was saying made no sense. Act first, ask questions later. Not good. Evan did make a mistake wallowing in his grief. Someone might die, I hope not! Well, unless it’s #averydieinahole. The Averyengers are assembling.

  10. Wtf is wrong with Evan??
He thinks he “really might have”?? (also he forgot photos on phones can be deleted? 🙄)
Did Avery infect him with the same brain-eating virus that she apparently got in prison? 😀 It had already some effect on Rea too…
Omg. Avery might start a plague and needs to be quarantined 😱
    Where’s the hole everyone’s digging!?

Oh and I’m also digging, but Evan’s disheveled hair! ❤

Oh and now that I’m finished –
Okay okay okay. Avery has completely lost her mind. Why in the world would she take Rea hostage when it’s so much easier to sneak money out of her otherwise!
Rea is literally the ONLY person that has her in good terms! She could have had anyone else abducted, it was already too easy for her to get to Evan!
And why in the world would she bother going through all the trouble with Evan if she wanted to abduct Rea anyway, it’s almost as if that woman wakes up every morning and thinks “oh- today I’ll do this evil deed” no matter if it makes any sense or not.
    I’m done.
#AveryPleaseDieInTheHole but not bc she’s evil, but because she makes absolutely no! friggin! sense!

    Liked by 2 people

    • We need to throw in the whole bunch in the hole? She got rid of Evan to get him out of the way so she could easily get to Reagan. She didn’t want to be the one to take her. Evan has no money. Not any more. The Murdocks do. And in her mind, they wronged her. She thinks Cole is stupid. He might be. And she doesn’t care about Reagan…she was simple a means to an end. So … yes at first she was biding her time, but she hooked up with Viviana and they decided to go after the Murdocks. Get their money and get out of the country. Whatever Avery. Agreed not well thought out.

  11. Wow, just wow. Avery went that far! Poor Reagan ! I seriously hope she’s okay! I’m glad Ryan has enough sense to see what an evildoer his mother is. Ryan really is awesome. He doesn’t roll over and take crap from anyone! I’m glad he twisted Evan’s arm tight enough to get him to speak up!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Ryan doesn’t take crap! That’s for sure but sometimes he dishes it out! I think Evan would’ve come clean with less coercion but that’s Ryan. Evan needed to tell someone and Ryan needed to yell. But now there are no doubts about how insane she is.

Really thought, what does she want!?? She got her daugther in the palm of her hand, thinks she took Evan out of the Picture, and no one thinks otherwise.

She’s a lunatic, to be trying such dangerous stuff when she *Just* got out of jail, like, seriously, kindapping your won daugther? That could go wrong in so many ways. I’m just amazed at how she’s not willing to wait, to get her hands on the Money.

He ambition will make her fall, and I’m here for it!

I’m glad Evan told everything, and I’m glad Ryan belived him. Thought It worries me that Evan is being linked as the one that caused all this. Poor Evan can’t catch a break. It would be funny, if it wasn’t so sad.

    • Her ambition, sense of entitlement and underestimating those around will likely be her downfall. She would totally go back to prison in a heartbeat.

I’m glad Evan opened up. And he’s got feel somewhat responsible, although he really isn’t. It’s all on Avery. Very sad for sure.

  16. Holy 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩!!!!

Ryan should have taken Reagan with him to go to Evan’s. Who knew the 💩💩💩 was going to start happening this fast? Things are so out of control right now and I feel like they all are one step behind. I really hope they catch up because they are going to need to if they’re gonna take those two psychos down. Thank God Ryan got to Evan first because he would’ve totally been implicated in this mess. Nobody would have been the wiser either. Archer and Co had better get there ASAP before Mommy Dearest and Gun Lady arrive first and take them as hostages, too.

Um…welllll…I hate seeing Reagan in danger but she brought a lot of this on herself. Had she listened to what everyone said – and I mean EVERYONE – so much of this could’ve been avoided. They all tried to tell her repeatedly, but noooo! She thought she had it all figured out and to hell with what anyone else thought. I do hope she gets out of this and if she does, she is very lucky, indeed. I just hope no innocent people get hurt. That would be the absolute worst. If that happened, how can she ever look at any of them in the eye again? Maybe I’m being snarky, but I hope she feels guilty about all of this for a very, very long time to come.

    • Yeah, hindsight is 20/20. Ryan totally should have taken her. But yes, the 💩💩💩 is hitting the fan. So happy Ryan got to Evan or she would’ve taken him down.

Reagan didn’t listen and it got her in and her loved ones in trouble. She doesn’t deserve that kind of trouble, but I’m sure guilt will eat her up.
