Chapter 4.01 – Prologue – Where are They Now?

7 years later…..

Ben & Sofia Murdock – age 81 & 80

Long ago retired, the aging couple moved in with Dannie and Cole. Ben is in a wheelchair stemming from hip and knee problems. They love spending time with their huge extended family and, of course, with each other.

Cole & Dannie Murdock – both age 61

Cole is gearing up for his retirement and plans to turn the clinic over to his youngest daughter Connie and her fiancé, Ray Dean.  Connie followed in her Dad’s footsteps and became a veterinarian.  Dannie still publishes her romance novels now that she has no children at home to steal her time. Sometimes she and Sofia can be seen sharing  ‘tiramisu’ recipes to help spice up her novels.

Evan & Reagan Connor, age 43 & 36, Grayson age 14 and identical twins Alexandra and Cassandra age 11

Evan will take over management of C&M with his wife Reagan at his side. Grayson, their oldest, is a quiet teen, very smart and most would call him a nerd, always with his nose in a book. He’s discovered girls, but is too embarrassed to approach them. With his good looks, they’ll likely be approaching him soon. The twins, Alex and Cassie are inseparable and identical in appearance, although they are as different as night and day in personalities. Alex takes after her mother. She is artistic and loves to draw and paint and doesn’t mind being alone. While Cassie is just the opposite and very much the social butterfly. She can talk to anyone about anything and make them feel important, very much like her father.  The Connors are a very close knit family.

Ryan & Maribel Murdock, age 36 & 42,  Samantha 14 and Tyler 11.

Ryan runs a successful gym called Total Mind and Body which he has managed to franchise throughout the state.  Samantha is a pretty young teen, however she looks and acts much older than her 14 years.  She is very involved in child modeling and acting with the help of her stage mom Maribel.  Tyler is athletic like his dad, but very hyperactive. He likes video games and playing music. They’ve put him on medication for ADHD, which he hates. He doesn’t like being ‘different’. Ty and Sam don’t get along very well and tend to avoid each other.

Elliott and Taylor Gray, age 42 & 38,  Jackson – age 10

Elliott and Taylor own and operate a successful chain of high end English Pubs. The couple decided to take advantage of his experience with similar restaurants growing up in London.  They spend time traveling around to train chefs for the new restaurants they open in addition to managing the original restaurant in Newcrest. Jackson, their son, is best friends with his cousin, Tyler and thinks he hung the moon.  The cousins spend a lot of time together roughhousing and playing video games.  Jackson’s parents would’ve preferred he showed more of an interest in the family business, regardless, they adore their son.

Connie Murdock age 26 and Ray Dean, her fiancé age 28

Connie lives with her fiancé in Newcrest. They are both Veterinarians, having met at her father’s practice in Willow Creek. They plan to open another clinic in Newcrest after they get married.  Newcrest’s population has grown so much, it’s now in dire need of a pet clinic.

Noah & Ami Redcliffe – age 61 & 55

Noah and Ami, also empty nesters since Will, their only child, got married, are in the process of looking forward to retirement. They are handing C&M over to Evan and Reagan to finish out the last phase of homes and retail lots. It’ll be bittersweet for Noah as he started working there right out of high school.  They are confident in turning it over to the grand daughter and son-in-law of one of the founders, Ben Murdock.

William and Genesis Redcliffe. Age 28 & 26.

Both attorneys, Will and Genesis met during his senior year at law school.  They married shortly after she graduated.  Will opened a law practice in Newcrest specializing in Corporate Law, his primary client being C&M, his family’s business.  After they married, Genesis joined the practice and added family law since there was a bigger need for family law in Newcrest than corporate law.

Onwards to Gen 4….

Cassie and Alex’s bedroom…

“Did you hear what Mom and Dad said?” Cassie asked her sister excitedly.

Alex continued browsing on her tablet while she listened to her sister. She was accustomed to her non-stop jabber. “No, what?” asked Alex automatically, even though she knew Cassie would’ve told her anyway.

Cassie flopped down on her bed.  “Sam is going to audition for a starring role in the upcoming season of Strangerville!” she squealed.  When Alex didn’t answer, she frowned.  “Don’t you know what that means?”

Alex put down her tablet, laid back on her own bed and sighed. “That she’ll get more stuck up?”  Alex was unimpressed with their older cousin while Cassie was a bit star struck, though who knew why.  Sam was snobby and always talking about herself. Tyler, Sam’s brother, was almost as hard to take as his sister, but not because he was stuck up. He was just sooo loud and rough. Nothing like their own brother who was quiet and usually played nice, or kept to himself. Grayson was super smart, already talking about what college he wanted to go to.

Cassie burst out laughing. “No silly! We’ll know someone famous! Maybe we can meet the guys on the show! That would be soooo awesome!”

“Oh Cassie,” said Alex and laughed, in addition to being star struck, Cassie was also boy crazy. Not that Alex didn’t like boys, she just didn’t need anyone else, as long as she had Cassie. And it was a full time job keeping Cassie calm. Maybe she was a little like Tyler. They said he had ADHD. Maybe she had just the ADD part.

There was a knock on the door and both girls quickly sat up as their father walked into their tiny bedroom.  “I thought I heard your voice Cassie. It’s past your bedtime. You two have school tomorrow.”

“Okay Daddy,” they said in unison.

Evan began to laugh. “Do you two plan that?” he asked, shaking his head.

“No Daddy,” they said, again together. Alex and Cassie looked at each other and began to giggle uncontrollably.

“Love you Daddy,” said Alex.

“I love you more!” said Cassie.

“Do not!” shot back Alex.

“Do too!”

“Do not!”

“Girls! Enough already,” said the object of their argument. They both looked at their father and giggled.  “Am I going to have to separate you two?” he asked, his eyebrow raised in a warning.

Alex could tell he wasn’t serious, but wasn’t surprised when Cassie panicked. “No!” said Cassie quickly, “We’ll be quiet. I promise.” Even though Cassie was somewhat of a social butterfly, she hated being separated from her twin. Even in school, the classes they had apart from each other were hard for Cassie. But the stupid school insisted they needed to become their ‘own person’. They already were their own person. That was just dumb. Alex didn’t mind as much as Cassie did, although she did miss her sister’s incessant chatting. It was strangely comforting.

“I promise too Daddy,” said Alex finally, “Goodnight.”

This was Alex’s favorite part.  When their mom or dad tucked them in and kissed them Goodnight.  It made her feel warm inside.

**************************************************************************

After settling down the girls, Evan made his way to his son’s room to make sure he was in bed too.  He was ready for alone time with his wife.  He knocked on Grayson’s door and when he didn’t answer, Evan peeked in to see if he was already asleep.

Not asleep, far from it. Grayson was sitting in front of the PC, talking softly to someone through his headset.  “I don’t think she likes me,” he said to whoever was on the other end, most likely his best friend Greg.

“Grayson!” called out Evan, loud enough for his son to hear, but not loud enough for whoever was on the other end of the call to hear.

Grayson jumped, “I-gotta-go-see-you-at-school,” he said, quickly running his words together and pulling off the headset.

Evan sat down on the bed and Grayson swiveled his chair around. “Girl problems?” asked Evan.

“Gah, Dad. No. Why did you sneak up on me?” Grayson was clearly embarrassed.

“I didn’t. I knocked, but you didn’t answer, so I opened it to check on you. Want to talk about it?”

Grayson sighed softly before answering. “There’s this girl in my math class and Greg said he thought she likes me, but she won’t even look at me.”

   “Maybe she’s shy?” suggested Evan.

“I don’t know. Greg’s gonna ask her best friend tomorrow and see,” he said.

“Oh. I see. You like her,” surmised Evan, unable to keep the grin off his face.

“Whatever,” said Grayson and tried unsuccessfully not to smirk.  “I was gonna ask her to the Fall Dance.”

“Well, let me know if you need any pointers,” said Evan biting back a laugh.

“Whatever, Dad,” said Grayson and rolled his eyes.

“Okay. Got your homework done?” asked Evan and Grayson’s eye roll got bigger as his shoulders slumped. Right, thought Evan, my son is a little genius. Even girl troubles wouldn’t keep him from his homework – unlike Cassie.

If not for Alex, she’d probably be diagnosed with ADHD, just like Tyler. He figured it must run in the Murdock family. He often called Alex her Ritalin because she had a way of keeping her sister focused. “Okay, then, jump in bed, sounds like you’ve got a big day tomorrow. Good luck with … oh, what is her name?”

“Veronica,” he said plainly.

Evan stood up, but didn’t try to hug or kiss him goodnight. He knew at 14, Grayson thought that was baby stuff.  At least he still allowed his mother to hug him and kiss his cheek.  She’d be devastated if he didn’t. Evan figured it must be okay for moms but uncool for dads.  He clapped his son on the shoulder on the way out instead.  “Okay, good luck with Veronica. G’night.”

Evan softly shut the door and went to find his wife.  He found her sitting outside with a glass of wine. Looking amazing. How had he managed to get so lucky? A beautiful wife and three wonderful children. He figured he was probably biased, but he had zero complaints.  He walked out to join her.

“Here you are and with wine to boot?” he said.  “Hard day?”

She looked up at him with those big green eyes. “No, not really,” she said and smiled, “It’s a beautiful night and I wanted to enjoy it with you. I already poured you a glass.”

Evan picked up the glass and moved to sit next to her. “Our son has his first crush,” he said.

“Oh no, Evan,” she said, “how do they grow up so fast? It just seems like yesterday that he was born. God I hope the teenage years are as easy as it has been so far and our angels don’t morph into full blown, hormonal strangers. I feel bad for Ryan though. He already has his hands full with just his two.”

“Well,” said Evan, “I think Sam is a product of her mother, maybe Ryan too – sorry Reagan.  But poor Tyler, well, he simply can’t help it. He doesn’t have an Alex to keep him focused.”

“Yes, Alex does seem to calm Cassie. I just hope they’re doing okay,” lamented Reagan, “The last time I spoke to Ryan, he seemed really down. Maribel is such a stage mom. She only focuses on Sam and has no time for Tyler, or Ryan either, it seems. Sam’s a beautiful girl, but …”

Evan pulled Reagan close.  “I know babe. Sadly, our kids don’t even like being around them and I’m sure Ryan knows,” said Evan. “Maybe it’s the difference in ages plus the opposite sexes. But Sam can be hard to take and Tyler is just … Tyler. I wish I had half that kid’s energy.”

“Don’t we all,” agreed Reagan and took a sip of her wine. “But I do worry about Sam. You’re right, she’s learning her values from her mother. Both Sam and Maribel have their heart set on this Strangerville thing. Maribel’s convinced she’s going to get the part. If she doesn’t, I think she’s going to be more upset than Sam. And if she does, they’ll have to move to Del Sol Valley during the filming. Ryan and Tyler won’t be able to go. And honestly, Evan, I’m not sure if Maribel even cares. I was hoping they would be as happy as we are. Maybe they were for awhile, when the kids were little.”

Evan sighed deeply. “A tiger can’t change their stripes Reagan.” He really hoped Mari had changed, but slowly over the last 15 years, she’d morphed back into the same attention grabbing, money hungry person she was during his own short marriage to her. “The lure of fame and wealth is just too powerful. She gets drunk on it. And why are we talking about her when I have you sitting right here and our own kids are in bed asleep?”

Reagan giggled. “Because you’re not kissing me?”

“I can fix that,” he said and leaned into her and kissed her deeply. He wanted her to know exactly how much she meant to him and that she still turned him on. Even after 14 years of marriage, he had never wanted anyone but her. He came up for air, “How about we go back inside?”

“Who says we have to go inside?” she whispered in his ear, her voice breathy and sexy making his pants instantly tighter.

“Hot tub?” asked Evan, trying to think of a place they wouldn’t easily be discovered.

Reagan grinned. “Turn out the lights,” she instructed.

Evan quickly did as instructed. When he headed back over, Reagan got up, making a show of slowly peeling off her dress while she made her way across the now darkened yard to the hot tub. Evan groaned watching her performance.

Once she was in, he mimicked her and stripped himself. He enjoyed the way she was watching him, her eyes full of both lust and love.

He climbed in and moved over to her to where she was sitting, smirking at him. He took her in his arms and kissed her softly. “I love you. God, you’re perfect,” he said, his voice husky with his need for her.

When Reagan climbed on top of him and joined their bodies, he almost lost it. “Fuck Reagan,” he muttered and grabbed her hips to try and still her movements so he could recover.

But his Reabear knew what she wanted and slow wasn’t on her agenda. She put her hands on his and helped set the tempo. They quickly went over the edge together, collapsing into one another in a breathless heap in the steaming bubbles.

    • Yes. It does seem like this might be an eventual outcome. So sad. We’ll see inside Ryan’s life in the next chapter. Hopefully they can work on their marriage a little. The rest of the family does seem happy. They haven’t had as much strife to deal with personally as Reagan and Ryan have. At least Evan and Reagan are still very much in love with each other. I just love them as a couple.

  1. Ooh, I had no idea it was starting already, but I’m happy to be here for it. 😀 Seems things turned out about as well for Reagan and Evan as they could. I’m happy for them, the darlings. ❤ They really deserve all the marital bliss they can get.

As for Ryan's marriage… I uh… I do have my suspicions that it won't last. It least if they want it to last, they'll have to work for it. Can't help but wonder if Maribel is horrible enough that some day, she'll end up in the trash can with Avery and Archer. You know I'm ready to edit the photo if she is. 😉

The kids are turning out well, too… well, okay, mostly Evan and Reagan's. Sounds like Ryan and Bel's are a mouthful. Oof.

Finally I just have to say that both Will and Connie found themselves some lovely spouses. Genesis looks particularly striking! 🙂

    • It is starting! It seems like forever to me. I’m so used to posting more than once a week! RL has really had it in for me keeping me super busy. But I hope it starts settling down now.

But yes, Reagan and Evan and those kids – ❤️❤️❤️ – a fairytale life. Of course we are just getting close to teenage hormones as Reagan mentioned. Lol.

Ryan. Yes. That marriage needs work. I hope Maribel doesn’t wind up in the trash can with Archer and Avery. Maybe since her name doesn’t start with an A she’s safe! Lol.

Most of the kids are turning out good. Ryan’s…well…time will tell. And Will and Connie did get lucky. And that made me remember I didn’t credit the creators of their spouses! Yikes. Gonna have to do that!

  2. Loved those family photos at the start!
Ben & Sofia…. that age they reached scares me already! But it’s so sweet that they can spend their time together with their families!

The twins are totally adorable ❤ Grayson too – he is pretty! I'd love to see more about the shy boy!
And ofc Ryan's kids causing more trouble! 😏😏

    • Ben and Sofia! 😭😭😭 But yes, at least they are with their family and each other.

Those twins! I adore them. So cute. And Grayson is even prettier as an adult. ❤️ we will definitely get to know more about the shy boy. And yes, Ryan’s handful of troublemakers!

  3. I love getting caught up with everyone! And the dynamics between the family… especially the twins! It’s so sweet how they balance each other out! And I loved seeing Evan try to give Grayson a little girl advice 😉

I knew things wouldn’t work our in the long run for Ryan and Maribel. Poor Ryan 😭

I loved this chapter so much and I can’t wait for the new gen to continue!!!!!

    • The twins are adorable. So different though. And Evan giving Grayson advice was so sweet.

Ryan and Maribel were probably doomed from the beginning. Sadly. Maybe he can fix things – they both have to work at it. More on them next chapter.

Then the kids will definitely start taking over.

  4. Great job on the family pictures. Loved them and catching up on those families lives.
I’m really excited about the kids’ stories. I’m putting my hopes in Sam. I 100% want to see her diva self in all glory. Everything suggests she’s going to pursue the acting career and the other day I was thinking about her the roles you assigned to the submitted sims. I couldn’t help but picture certain Cristiano as her very famous co-star. 😏
I wonder if the twins will remain unseparable throughout their teen years too or if something or someone breaks them apart.

    Liked by 3 people

    • I’m glad you enjoyed the family pics! Sam will likely diva out for sure and it’s pretty clear she’ll likely pursue and acting career much to the delight of her mother. And Cristiano will be around at some point. If it’s for Sam or someone else remains to be seen. But that sounds quite interesting….😇.

The twins definitely have a story line along with Tyler and Grayson. So a lot going on this gen.

  5. Oooh, that was quite the start! I love how you filled us in on how each family member is doing… how time flies!
Evan and Reagan have created such a wonderful family ❤ ❤ I love all three kids, but I think Grayson is my favorite of the bunch – I just love his type! 😍 I can't wait to see how each of them will turn out to be – although I'm sure the teenage years are bound to shake things up quite a lot!
Hmmm I knew Bel would go back to being a terrible selfish wrench, ugh. Which is sad, because Ryan doesn't deserve this at all! It's funny, because it was him who was more wary of Avery, yet he went and married one *smh* I'm very curious to see how Bel's ways will affect their children, especially Sam.
You got me so excited for this generation already! 😀 I am so looking forward for more!! ❤

    • Glad you liked seeing what everyone was doing. And I love Evan and a Reagan. They remind me so much of Ben and Sofia except that Ben was so hot headed and Sofia tempered it. Where Evan is calm and makes Reagan feel safe and secure. Those kids of theirs are soooo adorable and Grayson’s going to be yummy like his daddy. Teenage years do tend to shake things up! Lol.

Once the gym was done and she saw how cute and personable her daughter was, and got a taste of that fame again, she was gone. Ryan was rebounding and needed someone. He was losing Rosa, he lost Reagan more or less, and then when Bel offered him a life, he justified it every way he could. Then came trouble or adorable Ryan Junior – aka Tyler. And Bel washed her hands and focused on Samantha. It’s bound to affect both kids deeply.

I’m glad you’re excited! I am too! Next up is a peek into poor Ryan’s little barely functional family.

  6. “A need for family law in Newcrest.” /sigh. Stage moms: boy, they are annoying. Even if their kids are just background extras, they’re frequently so driven, and quite a bit of the time, the kids don’t care. It’s worse when they do. (I totally get that “rule” of never work with children or animals.)

I hope all goes well with Veronica and Grayson doesn’t get his heart crushed by his crush.

Evan and Rea are still going strong, and I love it!

    Liked by 3 people

    • Ha! I bet you have first hand experience with stage moms! So I’m sure she fits the mold.

Sweet Grayson, he might get a date for the dance. We shall see! And Evan and Reagan’s love affair! Still very strong. ❤️

  7. It’s wonderful to see everyone again. It’s good to see that Ben is still kicking, so to speak. Sophia too, never dreamed he would make it this far, Cole either.
The kids are something else, and at this time I can’t decide if Grayson or the twins are my favorite. Grayson reminds me a lot of myself, but I think the twins story will be even more fun. Although, Grayson is a quiet smart kid, but as I keep telling my sister, it’s the quiet ones you have to watch out for. I was a quiet kid but a hell raising teen and young adult.
Sam and Tyler, a mother trying to relive her own dreams through her daughter, rarely ever works. I don’t see things ending well there, with Maribel and Ryan and those poor kids.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with, and LOVED seeing Ray Dean with Connie…and this Veronica girl Grayson likes…..

    • It was fun getting the families together. Poor old Ben is getting up there for sure. We will most certainly lose those two this gen. 😭😭😭

The kids are so diverse and different. The teen years will no doubt begin to shape them even more as hormones kick in and they try to find their place. We shall see if Grayson rebels!

Sam and Tyler definitely have their challenges ahead of them especially with parents that are no longer very close.

Connie and Ray! Two veterinarians. Their house will be full of critters! Lol.

  8. Aww!! Look at everyone!! They’re all growing up (and growing older 😬) I’m so glad Ben and Sofia are still alive (I miss u Leroy 😭)

Am worried Ryan might be headed for a divorce 👀 a shame Reagan’s kiddos don’t wanna hang with their cousins 😔

Hey there’s Genesis!! Ahhh, it’s already starting ‼️

    Liked by 4 people

    • I love Leroy! 😍. And I’m happy too that they are still around.

Ryan May be headed for divorce court soon. 😢. Tyler would be the only that would want to hang. At least Taylor’s little boy thinks he’s cool. 🥰. Maybe it’ll change as the get a little older.

Yes! Genesis! She’s so pretty and a really good match for Will. ❤️

      Next chapter… Ryan’s clan is up. 😀

  9. The twins are so adorable! I love them already! And oh my…Grayson has a crush. Could this be love already? Probably trouble anyway. 😛

And it’s sad that Ryan and Maribel don’t have a strong marriage but is anyone surprised?

Loved catching up with the cast of characters! Can’t wait to get to know all the kids better!

    • The twins are so cute and I love them. Grayson does have a crush! Trouble? Nah….😇

Nobody is surprised at Ryan and Maribel. Maybe he can fix it?

We get to visit Ryan’s household next chapter and begin to get to know his kiddos. 😊

  10. Oh my!
Loved it! I can see I was right about Maribel and her family, which I’m sorry to say. But all legacies need some conflict 😛
The twins are adorable. THey have that twin bond going on! And Grayson… good luck, my man. Girls can be tricky beasts (so I’ve heard).
REally enjoyed this – so excited to finally be reading your legacy!!

    • I’m so excited you are reading! I really appreciate it! ❤️. Yes, Maribel is a hot mess. She’s caused problems from the first time we met Evan. I love the twins and they so have that bond. And yes, good luck Grayson. I feel bad when he gets his first heartbreak. He’s so sweet, it’ll probably hurt. Very happy you’re enjoying the story.

      Liked by 1 person

  11. Oof. I guess Sam And Tyler did become ”those cousins”. Well, too bad.

It’s interresting to see all the kid’s dynamics. I gotta admit they all seem to be pretty interresting on their own. Cassie and Alex’s relationship is adorable! I love how quiet, and dare I say mature Alex is, while Cassie is just all over the place and very much child-like, it’s na interresting contrast, and I’m wondering how they’ll develop over the years. Hopefully they’ll remain friends. A Loooooot can happen in just a few years.

Greyson seems as interresting, being a geek, and only now going into the dating zone. Thought I do feel bad for him, it seems like the Murdock’s men don’t have the best luck when dating LOL, Bem lost his first wife, and Cole had a heck-ton of difficult relationships (his ex tried to kill his daugther) before he landed on Dannie. So yeah, good luck boy, you’ll need it.

Also I low-key wish I could unsee the box of tissues and…the other thing in Greyson’s room.

It’s amazing that Reagan and Evan menaged to keep their marriage still Strong! Life seems to be going in a breeze for them, but, boye, buckle up, teenage years are not to mess with, and I din’t think it will be such a breeze for Grayson nor the girls.

As Always, I love for the drama. So I’m totally interrested in Ryan’s Family. I guess Maribel couldn’t change, huh? Okay, she might like her daugther, but is kinda low-key using her to get Money and fame, and that’s nasty. I hope Sam doesn’t end up all messed up because of this way of living, it would be a shame. AKA I hope Maribel doesn’t fill in for some divorce and parts away with he dautgher, leaving Tyler and Ryan behind.

Poor Tyler, he’s stuck in all this mess.

    Liked by 1 person

    • As always I love your comments! Sam and Tyler, yeah, ‘those cousins’. Poor kiddos.

Alex is definitely the more mature of the twins. It is interesting. But they are super besties right now. I do hope they stay that way.

Grayson … a bit geekish and quiet for sure. He’s just 14, but never really had crushes before now. I hope he doesn’t go the way the other Murdock men have. Oh, you noticed his tissues and … stuff. Oops. Grayson would be mortified to know you know.

Reagan and Evan. Very much in love and I guess keeping your marriage strong is easier when you have the sweetest kids around, so far anyway! Teenage years are looming….

Glad you are in for the dram because there will definitely be that! Beginning next chapter! Lol. Maribel is drawn to the fame and money and that high society lifestyle which Ryan just doesn’t do. He probably could, they are making good money now, but it’s lost it’s luster when you look at Hollywood…. And sweet Tyler…. stuck right in the middle.

  12. Nicely done prologue! My goodness, Ben and Sophia are getting older! 😬 I’m going to be so sad if I hear about one of them dying. But hey, it’s a part of life.

Looks like Reagan and Evan are doing super well, and boy that was hot at the end! I was quite jealous, I wish I had a hot tub I can do the horizontal Hokey Pokey in! 😄

On that note it looks like my hopes are coming true! Ryan and Maribel could be splitting up! Yippie! Just what I’ve been hoping for, drop the dead weight buddy. Ryan’s too awesome to have that negativity in his life. Will she be the next Avery? Who knows… 🤔

    • Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Ben and Sofia may not make it through this gen. 😭😭😭

Evan and a Reagan are very much in love and glad you approved of the ending! ❤️. Hot tubs are indeed fun! 😊

Ryan and Maribel might not make it to the end. 😢 I feel bad for him. Maribel may or may not be the next Avery! Hmmmm. We shall see.
