Chapter 2.62 – Moving On

The past week had been rough.  The Clinic was the only thing keeping Cole sane.  He had just seen his last patient and was busying himself with paperwork in his office when his phone rang.

It was Avery.  He wondered what she could possibly want. “Hi Avery,” he said with zero enthusiasm.

“Hey Cole. Ami and Noah told me what happened. I’m so sorry.  We figured you could use some company tonight.”

“I’m not good company right now Avery. It’s been a shitty few weeks, which you already know, so I’ll pass.” He figured she also wanted to say ‘I told you so’ about Yasmine.

“All the more reason for us to come cheer you up,” she said. “Noah and Ami are sitting right here with me and they’re worried about you. Here, I’ll put them speaker so they can say ‘hi’.”

“Hi Cole,” said Ami cheerfully, immediately followed by Noah grunting out “Hey.”

“Oh great, a fucking party.” Cole knew if Noah was in on it, he would come no matter what. “Sure,” he finally said, completely outnumbered and outvoted.

“Wow, you really do need to have some fun,” said Avery, “We’ll see you around 6:30 then with wine and hamburgers. Or would you prefer beer?”

Cole sighed.  “I really don’t care.  See you tonight.”

****************************************************************************

Noah busied himself with the burgers while the others sat down to chat.

When the burgers were done, Noah handed them out, along with a beer for each of them.   When Ami reached for her beer, Cole stopped her. “Hey, you aren’t old enough to drink,” he said.

“I am too! I’m 18 and starting SMU this fall, in case you don’t remember,” she said smugly.

“The last time I looked, the legal drinking age was 21,” argued back Cole.

“Let her have one, or two,” said Noah, “I’m sure it’s not her first. Hell, you were drinking at 16.”

Cole looked at his sister. Really looked at her. She had always been his baby sister, but now, he realized, she had grown up. She was no longer the scrawny teenager he remembered, getting embarrassed about Tiramisu. “When did you grow up?” he asked her.

“When you were at BBU,” retorted Ami.

“Toast everyone!” said Avery, interrupting the brother/sister feud. “To growing up?” she said it as more of a question than statement.

10-23-18_7-25-20 PM.png“To growing the fuck up!” amended Noah as he winked at Ami and clinked her beer bottle with his.

That broke the tension and they all laughed. “Cheers!” they all said and took a swig of their beer.  Cole watched Ami to see how she handled it. Yep, he thought, Noah was likely right. This wasn’t her first beer, or she was a damn good actress.

“So Cole,” said Avery, and smiled deviously, “did you know C&M is hosting a fundraiser for the local Heart Association?  Ben agreed to donate the use of the meeting rooms at C&M, plus he is making a sizable monetary donation. It will be give us positive publicity and maybe noticed by some of the more affluent who might want to move into the community.”

Avery took a drink and continued talking excitedly about the fundraiser.  “You see, the second phase is just getting underway and those lots are a lot bigger and nicer. And eventually the third phase will have luxury homes built on them. For our contribution, Ben gets to give a short speech about C&M, explaining what we have done for Newcrest and our plans for expansion. It might even attract some retail to move in, which will definitely help our sales.”

“I heard Mom mention it a while back. I don’t plan to go so I didn’t pay much attention,” said Cole. “But, it sounds like a win-win. Advertising dollars going to a good cause.”

“Well, I’m glad you think so, because you are going,” said Avery and grinned. “When I told Ben we were coming over to see you, he told me to drag you if I had to.  You’re now a well respected member of the Willow Creek community. A lot of people know you. That will help them put their trust in Ben. Goodwill. It’s a real thing for a business.”

“This sounds like a formal affair,” said Cole and frowned, “Tuxes and shit?”

“Tuxes and shit,” Avery repeated, mimicking him. “When did you get to have such a potty mouth?”

Cole pointed to Noah.  “It’s his damn fault.”

Noah shrugged and grinned at Ami who was giggling, then clinked Ami’s beer bottle again conspiratorially.

Avery rolled her eyes at Noah, clearly unimpressed, then looked back at Cole. “So yes, Cole,” she continued, “tuxes. And formal gowns for the ladies. You can be my date. And Noah, why don’t you take our new grown up here to her first grown up formal affair? You two seem about the same age.”

“Oh, yes Noah!  Would you?  Please?” asked Ami, totally missing, or maybe choosing to ignore Avery’s barb.

“Fuck no,” shot back Noah looking mortified.

Ami stuck out her bottom lip, “That’s just mean,” said Ami frowning at Noah.

“No, my dear, it’s self preservation,” replied Noah, very matter of fact, “Your old man would kill me if he even thought I might be looking at you, much less dating you. Nope, not gonna happen. I like my balls and my job too much.”

Avery and Cole laughed. “You know he’s right Ami,” said Cole, actually feeling a little sorry for her, “Dad likes Noah, but, Dad also knows Noah.”

“That’s such crap,” whined Ami, “Dad scares off every boy that I try to date!”

“Ummm….man,” clarified Noah crossing his muscled arms over his chest and puffing it out.

“Muscles do not a man make,” said Avery, sarcasm dripping from her words.

Cole was doing his best not to laugh. He bet she and Noah did this all day long at work.

“Okay,” continued Avery, her tone now excited, “so as not to rile up Benjamin, and to keep Noah’s balls safe,” she stopped and rolled her eyes at Noah again before continuing, “we don’t have to go as dates. We can go together as a group of friends – no pairing up.”

“Since I’m going to be expected to go anyway, fine then,” said Noah then looked at Ami.  “Ami, looks like we have a not-a-date-date. We’ll go together – as a group of friends. Please, make that perfectly clear to Ben.”

“Good,” said Avery seemingly satisfied with herself, “It’s settled then. We’ll go as friends to the Charity Ball. No harm, no foul.”  Then she turned to Ami and added in a sing-song voice, “I need to go shopping! Girl, we should go together.”

“Yes!” said Ami, enthusiastically, “Avery, there’s this great little shop…..”

Noah and Cole looked at each other. Cole motioned indoors and the two of them got up, clearly invisible now that the girls were talking about shopping, and went inside.

They got another beer and sat down together. “You know, you look like hell Cole,” said Noah somberly, “You gonna see how long you can grow that damn beard?”

Cole felt his face. He hadn’t bothered to shave since he had put Duke down, really since the reunion and it was pretty scraggly. He just didn’t care.  “No. I guess I just it just didn’t seem to be important.”

“Don’t bullshit a bullshitter. How are you really doing?” asked Noah seriously.

Cole let how a slow long breath thinking about his answer. “I’m okay, I guess,” he said honestly, “It’s just so quiet and lonely. At least I had Duke to keep me company. Now it’s just rough. I have been going into the clinic on the weekends just to have something to do.”

“You going to get another pet?” asked Noah.

“Probably, but I need a little time. It’s like every decision I make is the wrong damn one, but at the time feels so right,” said Cole, “so I’m going to wait.”

“Have you heard from Dannie?” asked Noah gently.

Cole sucked in a breath and let it out. Dannie was a subject he would prefer not to talk about. “She texted me to tell me she and Ryker were okay, and not to worry, that we were still friends,” then he let out a sad laugh, “You know, when we were dancing, she asked if I ever wondered what would have happened if we would have hooked up. Guess I got my answer.” Cole shook his head. “Not a damn thing, except all of this pain and guilt.”

“Well, maybe your not-a-date with Avery might lead somewhere,” suggested Noah.

“Oh God, Noah. Please – don’t try to hook me up,” begged Cole.

“All I’m saying is, you and Avery get along and she knows that business almost as well as Ben. You guys would be an amazing team.”

“That’s funny, because I always thought you two should get together.”

“Hell no. She is too foo-foo for me. You can do foo-foo, I can’t. Look how she dresses. Always put together and ‘on’. This is the most relaxed I have ever seen her. Anyway, she only tolerates me because of you and Ben. I need someone more like…well…like your sister. No offense, but she seems more like ‘what you see is what you get’. I think Avery has lots and lots of layers and I am not interested in playing games.”

“Whoa, hold on there Romeo. I’m not my dad, but I know you too, Mr. ‘Head in the Hedges’, so keep away from Ami. You’re my friend, but if you hurt her, you’ll have not only Dad to worry about, but me too.

“Dammit Cole, I was serious. You don’t have to worry about me and Ami. I’m not stupid. But what the hell are you talking about?” asked Noah confused.

Cole proceeded to tell him about the time he and Dannie overheard him with whoever it was he was dating at the time. He tried not to laugh, but couldn’t help it. “And by the way,” added Cole, “if you ever try that again, be careful. I found out, Dad had security cameras put up everywhere in the park and at C&M.”

Noah was laughing so much he couldn’t even respond to Cole.

10-23-18_8-02-01 PM.pngWhen Noah started laughing, Cole lost it too and laughed along with him. It was the first time since he was with Dannie, that he had been able to really laugh. Maybe he would be able to have fun again. He was grateful for Noah.  Perhaps, he should try to be more like his friend and stay away from serious relationships – just try to have fun.

  1. Hm hmmm… I see a potential love story forming between Noah and Ami and I ship it so much! ❤ Cole was right to call Noah "Romeo", I doubt Ami's family (mainly father and brother) will be keen on giving their blessing any time soon! I can't wait to see how those two future lovebirds will handle it! ❤
I'm not sure how I feel about Avery right now. She's all laughter and fun, but I have to agree with Noah that she seems to be extra complicated – not sure if that's something Cole needs at the moment… Still, it was very nice to see the four of them hanging out, those were some pretty good vibes and I'm happy Cole is felling better 🙂
But Cole, honey… just try to have fun? You know you can't pull that attitude off and it will eventually come bite you in the ass, lol!
Great chapter, looking forward to that party! 😉 ❤

    • Haha! You know Cole so well. He isn’t a love ‘em and leave ‘em kinda guy. He gets emotionally invested right away. So we will see how it goes.

And Noah is Romeo for sure. Juliet’s (aka Ami) family won’t go for a union between those two! So we shall see what happens. You may have missed it, but Ami going off to college. However, it’s San Mushyno, so not too far away, not like Cole. So she will come home more often. Noah likes her, as he told Cole, but he’s keeping her at arms length. At least he is going to try! Lol… Ami isn’t experienced enough to know not to play with fire and Noah is definitely a good lookin’ hunk of fire! ❤️

The party is going to be sooo much fun! A lot of stuff will happen….it’s actually broken into two chapters it’s so long! 🙄 The party and the aftermath….😂😂😂

  2. Ami and Noah, doesn’t Noah realize the only person Ben would trust his princess to would be him. Noah is like Ben’s other son. Noah has earn Ben’s trust. If I was Noah I wouldn’t worry about Ben and Cole, I would worry about Grandpa. He knows where all the bodies are buried.😱😉
I have a feeling Avery and Noah are going to start dating.
Maybe Cole will meet Yasmine’s parents and finally figure out Yasmine’s secret or he will meet Yasmine’s little girl.

  4. Another good one. I was glad to see a light chapter a sort of calm before the storm. Cause I have a feeling in my gut that another storm is coming. I think Ami and Noah would be good together. Yes he is a Romeo, but he has so much respect fro Ben and Cole I think if he and Ami would get together, he would treat that relationship a bit different. Despite his happy go lucky attitude, I think Noah is the more mature of the two boys, I am not sure about Avery myself. She seems….complicated. And that is the last thing Cole needs. On the other hand Avery does have her shit together, and is a strong person, so maybe that is what Cole needs. Looking forward to see where things go.

  5. Ami, go to Poland, 15 is legal age for sex and 18 for drinking alcohol! 😂
Avery has it all planned up for the party, getting herself with Cole and Noah and Ami together. She’s smart and I feel like she’s been wanting Cole for a long time. Hm, I could be wrong, though. Would be funny, Noah getting himself a younger woman and Cole – older! We’ll see how things go!

    • Haha! I can’t believe the drinking age in the US is 21. It’s crazy. It was 18 a long time ago. We will actually get a short Avery POV in the next chapter and see if she really was trying to make a move on Cole or not. Yep – we will certainly see how things go. Next chapter was super fun for me! 🙂

      • I think we have the right legal age in Poland. Everyone drinks way before it anyway! 18 is also the legal drinking age in my story, some habits I just can’t give up (I’ve recently realized I wrote metro in the last chapter instead of subway/underground, too European maybe, I also tend to use football instead of soccer), so my Sims don’t quite live in the States, but rather my made up country where I set the rules. There’s no way Sam could drink so much in the clubs when he was 19 at the time. Both Ron and Becca are 18 now.

              • I don’t think it is. You really give your characters depth and build them well. I sometimes envy you that we share so many teenage stories with them to come back to. I never tell manage to tell everything that’s in my head which is why I do so many dang bonuses. There’s still so much I’d want to write about Frank I consisted doing a sequel, but it’s not like I have time for it and it would probably be too confusing to start a sequel at the beginning of Hailey’s gen. People would get lost. I also wouldn’t manage to post 2 a week or so! I barely manage once a week. I’ve been making so many poses for this new chapter and will now be loading the game to take pics. I’ll be so mad if they don’t work as I want them to.

                • Haha. Thank you so much for your kind words! Cole’s gen was long in the teenage years! The bonuses are great way to add a little more. 😊. I get caught up in making poses too! I had to do the one where Cole was on the ground with Duke because I really wanted that visual of him comforting Duke.

  6. I am so here for this Noami action 😍 I bet they will look like a fabulous couple at the fundraiser 😉 (or not-a-couple 😛 but totally secretly a couple 😉 Just like Cole and Avery’s not-a-date hehe)

I’m glad Cole has Noah and Ami and Avery to help him through this rough patch. For once, Avery did not feel stalkery 😛 Just sweet. Which is nice, except… Dannie… 😭 You’re such a damn tease lol

Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing how the fundraiser goes! I have a feeling it will end up pushing these two not-couples together (and away from the “not” 😛 )

    Liked by 1 person

    • Haha…the not couples becoming not a-not couples and real couples….Maybe Cole might start to get interested in Avery, but he doesn’t seem to be at the moment. 😇. She did seem much more relaxed. But her and Noah, she isn’t a fan!

And well, Noami? Bonding seems to be taking place, but is brotherly? I bet it isn’t from Ami’s perspective! Most of us might say watch out Ami, but it might just be reversed and he needs to watch out for her!

I am excited about the next chapter. Everyone is all dressed up again and looking good! Should be fun. 😁🎉

  7. Dawww…it’s the start of Noami–OFFICIAL SHIP!!! ❤ I love them together (and I don't care if he's a lot older. As time goes on, it won't make a difference.)

Avery…egad! I just had an aha moment. She's going to be the "perfect" wife and Cole will be thinking, "why didn't I see it before?" as Avery has him led by the "little Cole" straight to the altar. Ben et al will love it, too. After all, she knows the family biz. And she doesn't carry baggage like poor Yas. Sigh…

Then after Cole does his duty as the perfect son (and heir), he'll realize his mistake because she was just after the cash cow. (Yes, I don't trust her. She's been gunning for him full tilt since they met.)

Dannie WILL have Cole's child already, so when Avery's baby comes on the scene, Cole Jr. (from Dannie) will take the legacy, thank you very much. (And Dannie will have ditched Ryker, Mr. Neglectful Hubby, by then.)

    • I love your predictions! 😈😈😈 The Noami! It’s the best thing to come out of this chapter! They are very cute together. Noah has a lot to teach her though before she’s ready for the likes of him! 😂😂😂. And I don’t think Ben or Cole will be onboard that ship. 😱 I hope Ami doesn’t prove to be more than Noah bargains for if they do wind up together….she has been so sheltered and coddled by Ben, that once she is free, well look out world! Or Noah! 😂😂😂

Avery….hmmm. The “perfect” wife. Hmmm… he did like Yasmine though, but I’m not sure he was privy to their issues. And of course, he adores Avery. He thinks she hung the moon and depends on her very much. So you could be right. If they do hook up (who are we kidding) then Ben might be all for it.

Hmmm…. a cash cow. An interesting take! 😂. And Cole Jr. Loving it! So many things that could happen. All I can say is I had fun with the next chapter. 😇

  8. I too am shipping Noah & Ami, but I totally understand why Ben & Cole are not on that shop with the rest of us. On the other hand, I can’t wait to see how Ben will react.
Avery is certainly a step above Yasmine. I am excited to see where that relationship goes.

  9. Throw me a life preserver! lol I think I need Noah and Ami to happen even if maybe they don’t tell anyone. lol

I think Avery is a better choice than Yas but I am still holding out for Dannie. Again, I need a lifeboat or something. 😀 😀

  10. I like these chapters with friends hanging out. You write them so well. All that friendly teasing. Noah freaking out at the idea of escorting Ami to the charity event made me laugh. But I have to agree with one of those earlier comments that he would be super careful with Ami out of respect for her family. I would definitely be something I like to see. Him being extra attentive and careful not to make any mistake. And at the same time I also love the idea of their relationship being kept in secret. I bet Avery would be the first one to find out.
I’m assuming it’s Avery’s turn now to do her number on Cole, I mean to make him happy. 😀 I hope for a nice and calm relationship between them. We had enough of tortured Cole. 🙂 Give us some happy days. (I can’t believe I’m saying this!)

    Liked by 1 person

    • Thank you for the nice comment. It is fun to write because of the wildly different personalities of the four of them. Yet they all like each other or at least have a healthy respect of each other.

Maladi wants happy days! 😱 Haha. Cole has had a bad run of it. Yasmine was so difficult, all they did was argue. Maybe Avery is just what he needs. She already knows his family and isn’t going anywhere. So maybe she can make him happy…he’s due. 😂😂😂

As for Noah. I have no doubt he would be extra attentive and extra careful not to hurt her. 😍 Keeping any relationship they have secret, I’m not sure Noah would want to do that at least not if things between them became serious. Ami, yes, she would totally try to hide it I think. She hasn’t matured enough yet. And that’s part of why Noah would be extra careful with her plus his respect for Ben and Cole. And they are totally beginning to gravitate towards each other.

As far as Avery finding out. She is very observant and aware of what goes on around her. So she could very well be the one to ‘notice’ something is going on, if it is. Ami is taking off for college in the fall so their opportunities to get together will be limited…but love knows no boundaries, right? Well except for maybe Yasmine’s…😂😂😂

The next chapter….the charity event will be fun! Wednesday…..

  11. Uh oh. If we hadn’t had that Noah perspective last chapter, I’d suspect Ami and Noah are dating already in secret! xD
I cannot really explain why, though.
And Cole seems pretty cool about Avery being his “date” while Noah/Ami implies romantic interest? I guess it’s because she is so young, or do they really sense something? xD
I do like Noami, though c: (Noah agrees, obviously!) Noah shouldn’t be worried about her father or brother. Ben wasn’t much better than him, eehhh maybe even worse, and he got around, and Cole is friends with him since forever. If Noah would make a move on Ami, it should be clear that he wouldn’t ever, if he wasn’t serious about it!

    Liked by 2 people

    • Yes…it might look like they are already secretly dating. They do see other a little at work since Ami is supposed to be working and helping Avery. I’m sure Noah is in the office from time to time. But he probably never paid a lot of attention to her.

Avery and Cole have been friends for awhile. He doesn’t think she wants to date him. And Noah is just afraid of Ben’s reaction to the possibility that he might be looking at Ami as anything other than a friend.

But Noami! That’s a ship that has taken off like wildfire! Ben was a player, so maybe his reaction to Noah, who is openly a player too, might be harsher than if he hadn’t been. But you are right, Noah would never make a move on Ami if he wasn’t serious and Ben should know that, but she is his princess and no man will ever be good enough for her.

  13. It’s safe to say everyone was waiting for Avery to be the next girl Cole is going to Date. Even so, I don’t know how I feel about her.

I mean, yes, she is trying HARD to be with Cole, but she stills keeps herself cool as cucumber ( very diferent from a certain Mia), around him, and doesnt seem *very* desperate.

Noah made a good point. He would be pretty much dead if Ben ever founded out about him and Ami.

  14. Too bad they don’t live in Wisconsin. From what I gather, you can drink beer (and maybe wine) at 18 but not the hard stuff until 21.

Damn! Avery had it all planned out. She was gonna snag Cole and push Noah and Ami together. Maybe I’m totally wrong on this, but I feel like Avery is a snake lying in wait to strike. There is a lot to her that we don’t know. It seems like she wants Cole, but I don’t think he ought to deal with complications like that, especially right now after what he has been through. It would be interesting to see Noah and Ami together. Yes, Ben likes Noah but when it comes to his daughter, it’s a totally different ballgame. This could becoming quite interesting and entertaining.

I was laughing so hard when Cole confessed to Noah that he heard his little tryst in the bushes. Oh God! I was peeing myself laughing. Damn! You made me blubber in the last chapter and then laugh so hard in this one that I almost had to literally run to the bathroom. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • Avery does have a lot of layers. And you’re right, we don’t know a lot about her. She keeps her personal life close. It would be interesting to see Noah and Ami together. But I think both Ben and Cole would blow a gasket. I’m glad I made you laugh after the rough last chapter. 😂😂😂😂.
